About David C. Slade


Mr. Slade has been practicing law since 1982.  He is a graduate of Lewis & Clarke School of Law, Portland, Oregon, where he received a Certificate of Excellence in Environmental Law.  Prior to Law School he received his Masters Degree in Marine Biology from the University of Puget Sound.  In 1999 Mr. Slade received the Distinguished Environmental Lawyer award from Lewis & Clarke School of Law.
 
  

In 1986 Mr. Slade became a bar member of the U. S. Supreme Court.  He has been involved with several constitutional law cases before the Supreme Court.  In one case, Phillips Petroleum v. Mississippi, Mr. Slade was the Counsel of Record for the Thirteen Original States.  Mr. Slade also covers the U.S. Supreme Court in his "Eye on the High Court" article, published in the World & I Magazine.  Mr. Slade's "Eye on the High Court" describes the cases in plain english, describing  the historical underpinnings and the case's impact on American's daily life, making the sometimes mysterious Supreme Court familiar and understandable to the ordinary citizen.

Mr. Slade has served in the General Counsel Office of the U.S. Department of Commerce, on the National Advisory Committee on Oceans and Atmosphere, and as General Counsel and Director of the Coastal States Organization in Washington, D.C, representing the views of the 35 governors of the coastal States, Territories and Commonwealths of the United States.  He has testified before the United States Senate and House of Representatives on topics ranging from fisheries, environmental law, constitutional law and international affairs.
 
 
Over the years Mr. Slade came to love and enjoy his work with Seniors and Elders, and began to focus his private practice more and more on Elder Law.  He takes pride in being able to explain complex topics of the law in plain english, so that the client can make the best decisions.  Mr. Slade also takes pride in being one of the very few attorneys that will make client visits at their home, in the hospital or at their living facility. 
Bringing independence, control and dignity to seniors and their families is the mission of his law practice.

Mr. Slade now practices law in Bowie, Maryland, and is also a member of the Washington State and  Oregon State bars.  The primary focus of his practice is Senior and Elder Law, but he is also active in the fields of Environmental and Constitutional law.

Outside of his law practice, Mr. Slade is the Founder and Chairman of the SladeChild Foundation Charitable Trust.  Established 20 years ago, the SladeChild Foundation is a 100% charity providing food, clothing, shelter, education and medical care to poor and needy children worldwide.    You can visit the SladeChild Foundation's website by clicking here.    Mr. Slade is also an accomplished jazz piano player, and a devoted father of his daughter, Sarah, age 15!
